In My Haven: July 21

This week in my haven was another week of getting back into our routine after a travel week. That seems to be the pattern my summer is taking, which is why I keep posting journal entries every two weeks instead of my usual weekly post. Peter, Joanna and I had taken a little trip to Denver and enjoyed some sightseeing, as well as a visit with a dear college friend of mine. Have you ever been to Denver? Our favorite things that we did there were a tour of the Denver Mint and a historic steam train ride through the mountains. We made lots of great memories on our trip, and I picked up the perfect souvenir. A couple years ago, I started trying to find a fabric store to visit when we travel so that I can pick out a special fabric or two as my souvenir. My visit to Fancy Tiger Crafts did not disappoint! I've already cut out and started sewing an Orchard Dress (free pattern by Helen’s Closet) with one of my selections.

That's enough about vacation. What's happening with Haven Handmade? July tends to be a slow sales month, so this week gave me time to think ahead to fall and about which of my summer goals still need some attention. The three goals I still have left to accomplish are increasing the number of subscribers to this journal, growing my following on Instagram, and making Haven Handmade products available in more small shops. I'm not an expert on how to achieve these goals, but I know I have to keep pushing myself. Of those three, the one that looms the largest for me right now is growing my email subscribers list. I love telling the story of Haven Handmade right here, and hope it resonates with readers. To encourage new subscribers and to show my appreciation for your support, everyone who subscribes via email to this journal will receive a coupon for 15% off their order. Also, I'm giving away a $10 gift card to the Haven Handmade shop every time there's a new In My Haven post. To enter the giveaway, you just need to be an email subscriber and leave a comment on the post.

Song Lyrics Appliqué

I got a request recently to sew up an appliqué of the recipient's favorite song lyrics. It's so cute, right? (The client was going to frame it herself, so I bet it looks even better now.) I find it such a privilege to work on meaningful custom projects like this. I know that the piece will be appreciated for many years to come because of the personal significance of the design. Helping you give a gift that brings joy to its recipient every time it is viewed is one of the best parts of what I do.

More From My Haven

Since life isn't all business, here’s a little more about what’s happening in my haven this week.

  • What I'm Cooking: I made a pitcher of this cucumber lemon mint water and drank almost the whole thing in one day this week! It was so refreshing and tasty on a hot day.

  • What I'm Reading: On vacation I started reading a book called The Miniaturist (Jessie Burton) and it has kept me on my toes.

  • What Joanna is Reading: Joanna and I have one chapter left of The Twenty One Balloons (William Pene du Bois), and she is loving it.

  • What’s Making Me Happy: Celebrating Peter and my 14th wedding anniversary on Tuesday.
