In My Haven: May 19

This week in my haven I can proudly say I have already made progress on some of my goals for the summer. It is such a good feeling to be able to say that after such a short amount of time! The specific goal that I am so excited to tell you about is that I have a workshop scheduled. I am going to be teaching a workshop called “Sew Your Own Mini Banner” at the Maker Lab at the Harold Washington Library on Wednesday, June 14. There is no cost to attend, but it is necessary to register in advance. Putting into words just how thrilled I am to have this event on my calendar is impossible. I hope I see you there!

My sewing time this week was largely spent starting to get ready for some markets that I'm going to be selling at in June. My travel drawing sets are always popular at markets, but I wanted to do something new with them. I think they are going to be even more of a hit with the little redesign that I did! Keep on reading to see how they turned out.

Crayon Coloring Sets

I am featuring three new adorable animal appliqués on my newly redesigned crayon coloring sets. I have a sleepy sloth, a friendly lion, and a cuddly koala. Which one is your favorite? If you can decide, then you're much more decisive than I am! Their little noses are magnetic clasps that hold the flap of the pouch closed, keeping crayons safely tucked inside. On the back of the pouch is an elastic strap that holds the pouch together with a little notebook so that it’s all one tidy package. The whole idea behind these crayon coloring sets is to provide your kiddos with a creative, screen-free activity that can be easily taken on the go. I also want it to be easy to use and re-use these pouches. Replacing a used up notebook is simple, and the pouch can also be used separately from the notebook. My favorite thing about these crayon coloring sets is that they are not only just a cute design, they are also incredibly practical. That combination of useful and adorable is always a winner in my book!

More From My Haven

Since life isn't all business, here’s a little more about what’s happening in my haven this week.

  • What I'm Cooking: We added diced avocado to this mango salsa recipe and served it over baked fish, and it was such a fresh and flavorful meal. I also think it would be great with black beans to make it a more substantial salad-type dish.

  • What I'm Reading: I finished reading Under the Whispering Door (T.J. Klune) and I enjoyed this book so much. It turned out to be a story about how love brings out the best in us and gives us purpose.

  • What Joanna is Reading: Joanna and I decided to read The Magician's Elephant (Kate DiCamillo) next because we also want to watch the movie. Like all Kate DiCamillo books, this one is full of whimsy and imagination already.

  • What’s Making Me Happy: Planning what I'm going to sew with the fabulous Liberty cotton lawn that I received for Mother’s Day last weekend has been lots of fun for me! I haven't made a final decision yet, but I'm leaning towards the Leschi top by Straight Stitch Designs.

What's happening in your haven this week?

Warmly,

Beth
