In My Haven: October 20

This week in my haven I have been adjusting to a new daytime schedule and working in a bit of sewing time here and there. I treated myself to a trip to the Vogue Fabric Store in Evanston last week, so I've been sewing a few wardrobe basics. I find it so satisfying to pull together outfits that are made up, either partially or completely, of garments that I've sewed. Before I went to the fabric store last week, I knew I was in need of some new fall basics, especially pants, so that's what I focused on. I picked out a couple cuts of nice, sturdy ponte di roma knit in black and burgundy, and I've started sewing a new pair of stretchy, comfy pants that can also be dressed up. Yay for secret pajamas! Other than that, my sewing focus this week has been on getting ready to share my Vintage Rose appliqué pattern with you, and I'm excited to say that not only is it ready, it's free! Please check it out (and also share the link with all your craft-loving friends and family).

Haven Handmade Patterns

Vintage Rose Pattern

I've already shared the appliqué project I made from my Vintage Rose pattern, so I want to highlight a few other uses for the SVG cut file, just in case you're not looking for a sewing project.

  • Cut from vinyl to personalize all sorts of projects from t-shirts to mugs.

  • Cut from paper to create unique greeting cards.

  • Cut from cardstock or vellum to create a stencil that can be used for painting the design on all types of surfaces.

Links & Things

  • Joanna and I started reading The Stars Did Wander Darkling (Colin Meloy) and, so far, it's got the right blend of suspense, mystery, and friendship for reading during spooky season.

  • I added this chai spice mix to some plain rooibos tea to create the perfect (in my opinion) warm drink for chilly nights. I drink it with a squeeze of honey and a splash of half and half in my mug.

  • After I finish sewing the pants I started, I'm going to start on a wearable muslin of this lovely blouse pattern. It's only available in French, so I'll be relying on a lot of sewing instinct to get it stitched up. If it goes well, I plan on making a second one in the Liberty Cotton lawn that I received for Mother's Day last spring.

What's happening in your haven this week?

Warmly,

Beth
